SELV

Safety Extra Low Voltage

SELV is a voltage that because of its low value and the insulation from circuits of higher voltage provides special protection against electric shocks.

SMART interface

For use of plugs for the corridorFUNCTION or plugADDRESSING application.

Sensor

A sensor is an electronic devices that measures physical properties (temperature, brightness, movement) and converts them into electrical signals. Light and motion sensors are used in lighting control.

SMART-Heating

High-quality lamp management with the “SMART-Heating” concept of PCA ECO T5 lp means perfect lighting solutions with preheat times of only 0.5 s, dimming to 1 % luminous flux and rapid dimming rates for up to 20 brightness values per second – ideal for sound and light applications for all T5 fluorescent lamps. The “SMART-Heating” concept controls electrode heating. This not only increases the life of the lamp thanks to a reduced load on the lamp filaments, but also reduces the connected load as there is a saving on heating the filaments.

Standards

Applications and areas of application for lighting systems are described in various standards. For more information and the original texts of the standards please contact Beuth-Verlag (DIN standards, www.beuth.de)

  • DIN 5035 – Artificial lighting of interiors
  • DIN 67528:1993 – Lighting for parking areas and indoor car parks
  • DIN EN 12193:1999 – Light and lighting, sports lighting
  • DIN EN 12464-1:2003 – Light and lighting, Lighting of work places, Part 1: Indoor work places
  • DIN EN 12665:2002 – Light and lighting, Basic terms and criteria for specifying lighting requirements

Overview of some Standards

switchDIM

Dimming the PCA ballast using a standard switch. switchDIM works with the mains voltage as a control signal. Depending on how long the switch is held down on a standard switch, PCA can interpret the signal either as a dimming command or as a switching command.

Superimposed-pulse igniters

In ignitors that operate on the superimposed principle the ignition voltage is generated by an integrated pulse transformer. With this ignition technology the magnetic ballast is not exposed to high voltage. This is particularly beneficial when the lamp comes to the end of its life and the igniter repeatedly tries to start it. Superimposed-pulse technology ensures reproducible ignition characteristics that are not dependent on the ballast used.

Supply unit

Operating devices for high-intensity discharge lamps. These combine ballast, igniter, p.f. correction capacitor and terminals in one casing.
