Presence control

Motion sensors can be used to detect the presence of people in a room. The lighting system can then be switched on or off depending on "presence" or "absence" to achieve energy-efficient operation. The luminaires are only operated when the room is being used.

Phase dimmer

Phase dimmers are devices that are used to dim incandescent lamps, mains voltage halogen lamps, and magnetic and electronic transformers for low-voltage lamps. There are two types of phase dimmer:
  • leading-edge phase dimmers for incandescent lamps, mains voltage halogen lamps and magnetic transformers for low-voltage lamps
  • trailing-edge phase dimmers for electronic transformers for low-voltage lamps

Protection class

Protection classes are used in electrical engineering to categorise and identify electrical equipment (for example devices and installation components) in terms of the measures for preventing electric shock. There are four protection classes for electrical equipment.

Protection class 0 Apart from basic insulation there is no specific protection against electric shock.
Protection class I / protective earthing All electrically conductive casing components are connected to the protective conductor system of the permanent electrical wiring which is at earth potential.
Protection class II /
protective insulation
Equipment with protection class II have reinforced or double insulation between the mains circuit and the output voltage or metal casing and has no connection to the protective conductor. This is also called protective insulation (safe electrical separation).
Protection class III /
safety extra low voltage
Equipment in protection class III operate with safety extra low voltage (SELV) and need reinforced or double insulation between mains circuits and the output voltage.

Devices that produce safety extra low voltage (SELV), i.e. with voltages not greater than 50 V ac or 120 V dc from mains voltage, need a safety transformer in accordance with EN 61558-2-6.

plugADDRESSING

Ballasts with plugADDRESSING greatly simplify the wiring and commissioning of large-scale lighting systems. Automatic detection and addressing of the luminaires and their colour channels via plugADDRESSING reduces installation to just a few operations.
